About

adventure danI’m currently in my first year of a three year NSF Astrophysics postdoctoral fellowship at UC Berkeley. I’m currently working in the field of gamma-ray burst astronomy with professor Josh Bloom and his GRB group on various aspects of these enigmatic events. My thesis work focused mostly on interpreting correlations and properties of their high energy prompt emission, but I’ve been slowly moving towards more optical and x-ray work on late time emission mostly due to the influence of my colleagues here at Berkeley.

I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan (Sterling Heights to be exact) in a Macedonian immigrate family with my twin brother Dale and sister Dana. My brother and I both later attended the University of Michigan and double majored in Astronomy and Physics and I eventually went on to get my PhD in Astrophysics from Rice University in Houston. My non-academic interests cover a pretty wide range of activities and includes just about anything outdoors. Hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, and photography to a name a few. You can learn more about my work and my curriculum vitae at my Research page, if you care to see some of my photographs, check out my Photography page, and for a more amusing look at who I am, I recommend checking out this link.
